Charlie Harding is a songwriter, adjunct professor of music at NYU Steinhardt, and co-host of the podcast Switched On Pop, about the making and meaning of popular music, a co-product with New York Magazine’s Vulture. The podcast has received several awards, including the 2023 Signal Award, 2020 Webby People's Voice Award, and 2019 People's Choice Podcast Award.
He is the co-author of Switched on Pop: How Popular Music Works and Why it Matters (Oxford University Press), which won the 2021 PROSE Award in Music & the Performing Arts. His writing has appeared in publications such as the New York Times, Los Angeles Review of Books, Vox, and Billboard.
Harding has interviewed artists including Carly Rae Jepsen, Finneas, Jack Antonoff, Kali Uchis, Nile Rodgers, Robert Plant and Willow. He has lectured at institutions such as the Kennedy Center, NYU Clive Davis Institute, USC Annenberg, and UCLA, and has spoken at events including SXSW, The Code Conference and Vulturefest. His work has been featured in media outlets such as NPR, The New Yorker, MSNBC, BBC, and The Verge.
